Just a Suggestion which people should really heed. If you ae coming to this Island, for a weekend, a week or whatever, and have no idea as to where to stay. #1 -Ask folks at home where they have stayed. #2 - Take a trip down and check the place out before you invest your money and #3 - Check Tripadvisor.com "POOR" category for the hotel/motel you ae intersted in NOT the glorious reviews, which we have found can be added by the owners. There is a motel in our area that is a disgrace, and the complaints show it too be ture. However, as soon as one bad review pops up, 3 excellent ones follow so as to remove the bad review from the top page when you are checking the place out. I wouldn't let my pet stay there under any circumstances. Bed bugs were written about it a year ago, and the response from the owner, they get Terminix in once a month to check it out. If God forbid, you get bedbugs, Terminix is not correcting the situation on a monthly visit. The website is busy, busy and moreso, and the owner really gives you the pitch to stay there, but you will be sorry. We see customers demanding their money back when they arrive, but that is not happening either. In the off-season it is turned over to the state to shelter people and when it opens a quick spit and polish opens it for this glorious summer vacation spot!?!?!? Folks, check ou the complaint section (they won't lie) and especially if you see the same complaints one after another. You work to hard for your money, and yes, you can find reasonable places on this Island that are immaculate. Don't be fooled by the website, and the Tripadviser reviews. The LBI Board of Health should be more active in this area as is the police department as they are constantly called here in the off season. This place is a dump.

Could you be more specific? North end, Beach haven, South end, Bay or Ocean side?

There was a clue buried in that almost unreadable rant. Posters should be aware that *their* credibility is being largely determined by their presentation.

I would guess this refers to the motel at the south end of the island (forget its name)? We stayed there one year, and if there's a worse place on the island, I would be very surprised.

People can't believe the story we tell about staying there because it's so laughable, but this actually happened. When we checked in, we saw the room was pretty bad (old furniture, stained carpeting, noisy ceiling fan), but we decided to make the best of it. Our first full day we spend on the beach. When we get back, we expect like most hotels that our beds will be made and our room cleaned. Alas, the room looks the same as we left it. "Don't you clean the rooms"? I ask the caretaker. "Why?", she replies, "is your room dirty"? "I mean don't you clean the rooms on a daily basis?", I ask. "No, but we'll clean it if something is specifically dirty". "Well, can I at least get fresh towels?", I ask her. "We don't supply fresh towels every day, but we'll replace one if it's is actually soiled, but you have to bring me the towel so I can see it's actually soiled". I ask her if she's joking, and she says that this is the owner's policy. This is amazing, but it gets better. About half way through the week, I notice our toilet paper roll is getting low, and unlike most hotels, they don't give you any spare rolls. When I ask for more toilet paper, she asks me (and I'm not making this up); "are you totally out"? "No", I answer, "but I don't really want to wait until I'm totally out before I get more, especially if I may need more at the time I run out". She laughs and say; "well I mean, are you almost totally out"? This is a hotel I'm paying $170 a night, and I have to prove to her that I need more toilet paper before I can actually get it??? It was simply unbelievable.

We considered staying there but I found the man who answered the phone a little obnoxious. I'm confused about the comments above since this place got good reviews on tripadvisor. could all the reviews be the owner or friends? I wouldn't stay there because of the attitude of the man who answered the phone, but these comments don't match the online reviews.

If you have specific feedback, feel free to write reviews on multiple sites. Most experienced travelers try to eliminate the odd superlative as well as the lone terrible review as they can be shills or competitors. Feel free to have more than one adult in your group write a review. When a common theme starts emerging it is more believable.

WOW - my post was removed. Because I revealed the name in a cryptic way? I guess censorship is alive and well at lbi.net
