Subject: Shackleton
Anyone have any comments on the Shackleton fiasco taking place in Long Beach Township?

another example of abuse of power...To the point of re-iterating his comments publicly knowing that there are no repurcussions. Unfortunately, we only have ourselves to blame because it's us, the people that will do nothing.

This is our Township Attorney?
What a fool and an embarrassment to our community.
I hope this cretin resigns.

Pigeons, which are decendants of the Europeon Rock Dove, were originally brought to the United States for food. They have since become a nuisance and in many cities are used for shotgun practice by the local police force. Mr. Shackleford is a terrible shot -- it's not surprising he's a Mets fan. I'm sure that's why is so miserable looking. Go Phillies!

I have a mixed opinion on this one. First of all, I think that what this guy does in his spare time is probably not the business of the Township as long as what he does is not illegal where he is doing it. That said, I personally think this sport is revolting. I also think that he is demonstrating a complete lack of good judgment, restraint, decency, self control, etc. (which should be some of the qualities a Township attorney should possess). I don't think this is the same as someone slipping out the F bomb when they don't think anyone else can hear it.

I agree with the earlier poster. Shame on us for allowing this nit wit to continue on in his township position. WE PAY HIS SALARY!! He should not only be fired (come on Mr. Mayor, step up) he should have the bar censure or whatever it is that they do these days to publicly recognize and idiot in their midst.

The problem is the township position is for ego only - the guy owns half a real estate agency and is into many other things and is worth beaucoup bucks. I disagree with both parties in this rediculous incident. Nobody should have to put up with this harassment and a public contractor should not respond like a child.

While I too agree that what one does in their private life is their business, a public servant must be held to a higher standard. This is not acceptable behavior for someone who represents this area.
Submitted By LBTownie on April 26, 2010
This is the typical behavior for the people in this township. Take a look at the mayor. These people have no rules and do whatever they want without apology. It will never change. The Shackeltons and Mancinis have been running the island for a very long time.

Townie, your response is so sad...it's people like you that allow these people to exist. Get involved...

I assume this is the story everyone is referring to?

Well, another example of abuse of power. This story has died down, Mr. Shackleton remains in his position (billed LBT over $250,000 last year) and we the people do nothing. They have our number folks...They know the outcome every time and we continue to do nothing. Shame on all of us
Submitted By Go Away + Get A Life on May 18, 2010
The story "died down" because there is NOTHING to it. He was not doing anything illegal and his comments to the people who were bothering him are protected by free speech. I am certain you yourself use colorful language at appropriate moments. Get over it. Go away.
Submitted By Philly Girl on May 18, 2010
There is "something to it" -- his "colorful" language is demeaning not only to women, but to our society in general. The fact that his language is not illegal, and part of his rights is a ridiculous response. Yes, the only crime that he committed is being a Mets fan, but his sociopathic behavior towards women and society as a whole should be enough for him to resign. I wonder what his daughter Katie thinks about his behavior -- I would be mortified if I heard my father use that word.

"....his "colorful" language is demeaning not only to women, but to our society in general."
I am absolutely certain that Western Civilization will survive the shock.
"...and part of his rights is a ridiculous response."
The Consitution of our country is far from ridiculous!
"...his sociopathic behavior towards women and society as a whole should be enough for him to resign."
You really should go back on your meds. Those delusions are coming back.

GAAGAL is a prime example of why our government is in the horrible condition we find today. Our values, ethics and morals are in the toilet. Our leadership is non existent and we accept behaviors that we should not. It's a slippery slope and we should stand up and say no more. GAAGAL is an example of our overall inability to have constructive debate. There is an immediate attack and/or insult whenever an opinion differs. It's really a shame to watch.
Submitted By Go Away + Get A Life on May 19, 2010
Oh, please! Debate?
The original question itself was an attack, using inflammatory language ("fiasco") and posted under the name "Had Enough". No debate there! Just trying to cause trouble.
Pot, meet the kettle.

Go Away + Get A Life seems to think that public officials are free to represent themselves in this way and that there is no issue with it. Fine. I just have to ask where is the line drawn? If our leadership acts in such a shameful way, we are to assume that it is ok for everyone to act this way. I personally do not want to see this happen and I agree that public officials need to be held to a higher standard.

Go Away + Get A Life is a jackass with no depth of thought. My guess is that it is one of the usual posters such as Gus. He seems like a sexist with an average or below IQ. Go Phillies (Flyers too!).

Gus a Met fan? I think not.
