Subject: Best time to leave NYC
Hello! I have a Sat-Sat rental house in Beach Haven for a week this summer. Will I avoid traffic going onto the island by leaving NYC at 8am on Saturday, or is that too late?

Submitted By Denise on July 8, 2009
If you're coming in late July or August, I would suggest you leave before 8. I would plan on getting onto the island (across the Causeway bridge), by 9 at the latest. Personally, I'd hit the road BY 7 if I were leaving from NYC.

We leave from our home in Ct @ 5:30AM. This might sound absurd but we hate the traffic. It also gets us to the island early. We enjoy a leisurely breakfast/brunch, walk thru the shops, buy some souvenirs, walk to the bay beach. And we have a 15 and 11 year old.

You wanna go southbound & down before 8 out of NYC - make it 7AM...

Been doing this for over 30 yrs. 7AM is almost too late. The traffic on the approach to the Manahawkin bridge will be well established by 9AM.
