Height retrictions on buildings? posted on April 5, 2004
What are the height restrictions for buildings on LBI? Are there separate rules for residential, commercial and government buildings? The building going up next to the water tower in Beach Haven Park looks too tall. Thank you.

Fire Department posted on September 14, 2003
I live in Manhattan, but vacation in LBI every summer with my family. I was shocked to learn that LBI is served by a VOLUNTEER fire department. Isn't this considered unsafe, given the population on the island during the summer months? I'm almost positive they have little training in regards to firefighting, and I would feel much safer when i vacation there with a professional department protecting myself and my family. We wouldn't think of having volunteer police, why take chances with volunteer firefighters?

Island Guest House posted on August 21, 2003
My husband and our three adult children booked two (adjoining rooms)at the Island Guest House B&B, we were not told that the bathroom was in our bedroom only, so everyone had to pass through our room to use the facilities. On the second day at the B&B, we returned to our room only to find that our bathroom had not been cleaned. We were told that "the night person will do that between 7 & 9 PM"...didn't happen. We returned on the next day only to find the same situation. We spoke with the young persons who were working at the B&B and they could not give us any reason for not cleaning the bathroom. Finally the owner was available to hear our complaints and informed us that we would have to request that service, afterall, when we checked in she asked us "if there is anything we can do to make your stay more memorable, let us know." We told her we did not think that a clean bathroom was an extra, especially since there were five in our party. We also had to ask for more toilet paper, towels and soap, this request was met with hesitation. Additionally, my daughter returned to our room in the early afternoon and found our door was left open wide, with no one around. She went downstairs only to find an employee on the telephone. When we questioned about this later in the day it was denied until my daughter confronted this person directly. Then it was admitted. Luckily, nothing was stolen.
In addition, the breakfast served at this guest house was limited as well as mediocre.

Pesky Insects in the Holgate Area posted on January 2, 2002
I am currently trying to secure a weekly rental on lbi for summer, 2002. One comment I heard from a previous renter was to avoid the southern end of the island because it had more of a problem with annoying bugs (biting flies, etc.). Is there any truth to this, and could anyone provide more details/comments? Thanks!!!

Siren posted on September 10, 2001
Does anyone know why Beach Haven / Holgate continues to use the very loud siren for ambulance and fires . It seems to go off several times daily? Why is this the only municpality to use this system. It is very annoying. I belive other towns use a radio based system. I understand the need for a system...just that this method is antiquated. I would like to find out why.

I read on here at an earlier time that PruZack realtors allow owners to cheat their tenants out of security deposits. I like to second this notion!

Ticketed on Beach posted on July 16, 2001
I have been going to LBI for over 30 years. Last week I paid a substantial sum and stayed in Ship Bottom and then visited a friend who was in Spray Beach. I was approached by LBI Beach Nazi's and asked to show my pass. I did so. I was informed the Ship Bottom pass was NO GOOD in Spray Beach and when I refused to be coerced into purchasing more passes I accepted a ticket from Police Officers and will appear in Court in two weeks. Why are visitors to LBI harrassed in this manner? Is the Chamber of Commerce aware that people who spend LOTS of money to relax on the beach and eat and be entertained in local establishments are being treated in this manner? An elderly couple from North Carolina next to me were staying in Beach Haven and were visiting their daughter and grandchildren on the Spray Beach at the Inn only 2 blocks from Beach haven and were forced to pay again as well. They said that next time they would pay their daughters air fare to Carolina where the beaches are free. I am going to court even though I know the local Judge (spell that Tax Collector) will undoubtedly find me guilty, because I want to see what kind of greedy morons run this town. After 30 years of LBI summer vacations I can say that my court visit will be my last visit to LBI. Have any of you been dunned into purchasing passes for more than a single municipality in this manner? All I have to say is Goodbye and good riddance to the LBI BEACH NAZI'S.

What's with the Flies this year? We could not even go to the beach last week because of them biting everyone. Not even skin so soft worked! Is the EPA going to spray the island to get rid of them?

When did the island become the roosting place for S.U.V. driving yuppies? Renting houses for $6000 and $7000 is far from the $50 a week plain cottages that used to host vacationers. Are we losing our once beautifully down to earth island ?

Stupid neighbors after my dogs posted on September 5, 1999
I have 2 dogs, I also own a house on LBI. I have this idiotic neighbor who obviously got a dog bone up his ass. He's manipulating the town prdinances to his advantage, by calling up anonymous complaints about my dogs when they're indoors, he has sent me an anonymous letter describing the pooper scooper law, he has connections with some asshole councilman who consels him on anything he wants.
WHAT CAN I LEGALY DO TO GET THIS OLD FART OFF MY BACK?? I have followed the law all my life, but I need some serious help before I do something stupid to this asshole.
PS. I apologize for the language but he is really pushing my buttons, and I need someone on my side ( even the police officers concurr with me on the absurdity of the complaint sbut they are bound to answer the complaint )

I've been coming down for 17 years. What was this person speaking about? She is a R.E. person and could not give too much info.
