Looting already on the island posted on November 11, 2012
Came down for the second time yesterday and discovered that out 3 walkways have been stolen from directly off our porch in BB. Note these were well onto our property, in fact the third walkway was rolled up in out outside shower. So the person or persons had to walk all around our house to see what there was to steal. Beware!

Has anyone experiences unexplained traffic stops? After 14 years of family vacationing on the island, this year our 19 year old nephew has been stopped twice! Tonight it was for the hanging airfreshner from the rear-view mirror.

Peeping Toms (re: Dagmar) posted on June 21, 2012
Dagmar- what about the peeping toms? You posted a comment about them in another post. Is there an epidemic of people crawling in windows? Does LBI have their own version of the "Bed Intruder"? (hide your kids, hide your wife)

Am I the only one who thinks that coverage of 18 miles by ONE Police Dept. is sufficient for the island in an attempt to consolidate and thereby enable a reduction in taxes?

I'm praying the shack makes it through this hurricane. If it does, it deserves to be "shored up", for sure :).

Hammonton man charged with with peeping incident outside Long Beach Township home
LONG BEACH TOWNSHIP — A Hammonton man was arrested after a woman reported seeing a naked man peering into the window of her home in the Beach Haven Crest section of the township, police said.
A woman called police about 1:20 a.m. on Friday to report a naked man was peering into her window on East 83rd Street. Police responded and later found a man who matched the description given to police, but he was not taken into custody or arrested at that time, according to Lt. Anthony Deely.
A follow-up investigation by Detective Sgt. Steven Melega and Detectives Jeffery Ehlers and Ronald Hullings fingered John J. Wiegel, 43, as a suspect and an arrest warrant was issued for him, Deely said.
Hammonton police on Saturday located and detained Wiegel, who was transported to Long Beach Township Police for processing. He was charged with peering and lewdness. He was remanded to Ocean County jail in Toms River after failing to post $35,000 cash bail.
Police Officers Phil Pollina, James Seidenfaden and Patrick Mazzella initially responded to the scene with Sgt. Michael Brennan.

A good cup of coffee needed! posted on August 23, 2010
A coffee shop should have coffee correct? I can't say how many times we stopped for coffee at How Ya Brewin in Surf City and most pots are out of coffee so you wait for someone to be free to fill them for you only to find the milk is empty. The customer service there needs a face lift for sure so is there any other place to pick up a cup of good coffee in the Surf City area? I'm thinking Wawa's is so much more accommodating...

Parking posted on July 31, 2010
So when I drove to Pearl Street about 10am this morning their was a spot about 6 back from the dunes. Great. As I am turning into the spot a gentleman opens his parked (in the next spot) car door and (while texting to someone) stands in the middle of the empty parking spot and says "This spot is saved". I am dumbfounded. I stop and collect my thoughts, roll down my window and say "this is a public parking area you can't save a spot" He says it is for my wife she is right behind you. Well I could have made a stink, but I was dumbfounded. We had a couple more words with each other and I drove away. Am I incorrect here? Has anyone else ever had this happen to them on LBI? What would you have done?

Andy's pier private? posted on July 15, 2010
Encountered a miserable old lady (and eventually her husband) behind Andy's by the water...we took friends and the kids there for some fishing. First of all, she accused my friend of touching her car (he apologized, but said he didn't actually touch the car). Well that started her nasty tirade. We fished there for several hours, then as we were leaving her husband shows up, and they start up on us AGAIN. They insisted that the area was a private pier they maintained, though honestly we saw no signs. In my 40+ years of coming to LBI I have NEVER encountered such horrible rude people. So can anyone back up the "private pier" claim?? Oh, and if you find yourself there and see a silver Dodge parked there, PLEASE touch it for me ;)

LBT Bay Beach Cleanup posted on July 10, 2010
Just got back from a fabulous week in LBI and loved every minute of the hot weather and cool ocean. However, taking the toddlers to the bay beach in Long Beach Township was not pleasant. The beach is packed with stinky seaweed and the lone lifeguard just sits there with no kids because all the parents left within minutes. (I saw that this was complained about in a July 07 post also). It could be such a lovely little spot for kids if someone would just rake it for 1/2 hour or so. In contrast, the ocean beaches are beautifully combed and smoothed every morning.

Beware: sandals and flip flops stolen LBT posted on July 4, 2010
Just a heads up. We had 2 pair of flip flops and a pair of men's sandals stolen today right underneath the bench at the 44th street entrance to the beach in BB. One was a brand new pair of girls $20 flips. Stolen right in the middle of the day so walking home in the scorching heat and tar street was delightful. I believe last year there was a young teen stealing many flips/sandals somewhere in LBT and probably reselling them. Never had a problem in 30 years of leaving our shoes up there and neither have our neighbors. Maybe this is the same kid. Anyway, reported to LBT police to keep an eye out. More likely than not, we'll be seeing these shoes on ebay...

Ship Bottom making things miserable... posted on September 8, 2009
I've heard from several neighbors and even businesses about Ship Bottom making it near impossible to build/add/fix-up properties. Has anyone else had this experience? The same name at the borough keeps coming up as being problematic again and again.
Just curious.

excessively sloppy tenants posted on August 2, 2009
I searched this subject and didn't find anything directly on point! This is directed to owners who rent through realtors. How much sloppiness do you tolerate from tenants before you attempt to hold back some of their security? I have had absolute slobs the past three weeks. I clean myself so there is no billing from a cleaner to show anyone. I think 3 hours of cleaning (which includes emptying the dishwasher, re-arranging furniture, washing mattress pads, emptying garbage, throwing out food in the fridge, cleaning caked-on pizza cheese out of the oven, etc.) is excessive but maybe it is to be expected. I know that some cleaning is notmal but this has been really bad. I would appreciate input from other owners. I am of the mpression that some tenants think we are so desperate that we will put up with anything.

Johns Deli in Ship Bottom posted on September 25, 2008
I stopped on Tuesday to pick up a sandwich at Johns on the Blvd in Ship Bottom. They're located where the old Hands store used to be. I didn't go at all this summer, so this was a first visit. What is up with this place? Only one other customer came in. They had tuna salad out in a display case that was absolutely brown and crusty...seriously I thought maybe it was tuna noodle casserole. But no, it was just very very old. Next to the tuna salad was the most disgusting looking chicken salad; dried up and crusty with globs of very old mayo. I'm not exaggerating when I say these items must be months old. I totally cannot believe they would serve this rancid food to customers and think it was ok. Where is the board of health when you need them? Do yourself a favor if you go in there. Only get cold cuts that are cut to order. At least they have to be fresh.
