Happy Start of the Summer Season! May this be a banner year for LBI!!!!!

I just learned about this worthy project! (Info inside!)

I visited the island yesterday and was glad to see the progress that has been made since the storm. Although these strides are fantastic for business owners and homemowners alike, I walked to the ocean (during a low tide phase) and was surprised to see exactly how much of the beach has actually been lost, even in areas that previously had replenishment. We all knew the beaches would be impacted with such a severe storm but I was not expecting the sights I encountered. I visited three township beaches altogether and found the conditions quite depressing and sadly similar. A few questions: Has there been any talk/plans of beach replenishment in all towns (not just the ones mentioned in the article dated May 3rd)? Also, I found several pieces of driftwood (with nails) either on the beach or floating just underneath the surf (quite disheartening and also quite dangerous with beach season upon us shortly) - Is the driftwood common now? Are pieces washing up regularly? Has the remaining beach sand been sifted for debris? I've been a part of this island for 17 years and was deeply saddened by the conditions I observed. Please someone give me good news!

Is there a height requirement for lifeguards in Holgate? I'm 19 but just over 5".

Will there be handicap access on the beach at 94th street, we are considering renting in that area?

I read an article in the sandpaper a couple of months ago about possibly eliminating beach badges since the public should have free access. Has this been resolved? Hopefully, we will still be buying badges.

I really can't wait til summer to come down! How are the beaches!

The Boro of Beach Haven have lots of photos and an arial video of Beach Haven on their website. Folks looking for the condition of their place won't see specific damages but it may give you some kind of idea what you are in for when we can re-enter.

Borough of Beach Haven Office of Emergency Management is advising anyone that needs to get off the Island go to the Engleside Inn If you cannot get there please call 911 and then move to the highest floor of your home and bring a cell phone with you and wait for assistance. There will be arraignments made for a ride to the nearest shelter. Please note that you may not be able to bring your pets.
