L.E.H.A.R. is a not for profit, no-kill animal rescue made up entirely of volunteers. We are dedicated to the health, rehabilitation, care and home placement of unwanted, abused, or abandoned animals in danger of being euthanized. LEHAR's no kill policy means that animals will not be euthanized as a means of population control, and animals will also not be euthanized for the sake of convenience.

LEHAR has been helping animals in need since 1993. Our goals include lowering the euthanasia rate at our county shelters and making a low cost spay clinic available in our area. We plan to continue working with foster homes and providing animals for adoption. Last year we were able to help over 798 dogs and cats. It costs us approximately $37.00 per animal.

Last year over 3500 dogs and cats were euthanized in the two Ocean County Animal Shelters. Many responsible pet owners are unable to have their pets spayed/neutered due to lack of funds. All our animals are spayed/neutered before placement. We will also be continuing in our efforts with feral cats. We will assist people by lending them Hav-A-Heart traps and helping them with low cost spaying/neutering. Also this year we are pleased to announce that a LEHAR bookstore will be opening in Tuckerton, New Jersey.
