Long Beach Township
History
In an attempt to organize the many small communities on Long Beach Island, Long Beach Township was established in 1899. By that time, Beach Haven, Harvey Cedars, and Surf City had already formed independent boroughs.
In 1904, Barnegat City (Barnegat Light) incorporated as a borough, and Ship Bottom - Beach Arlington became an independent municipality in 1925. Tucker's Island was governed by the township until it disappeared into the sea.
