|We live in Beach Haven & driving along the island I see so much construction, either people raising their homes or people razing their homes & rebuilding from scratch.
Has anyone spoken with any of the house raisers regarding what they're paying to do so? I found an old thread that had some published rates for the process:
"Quoted prices for house raising were $13 to $14 per foot of height, per square foot of the 1st floor of the house. This is when the house is raised from 0 to 6 feet, it is more if it has to be raised higher. Chimney involved? It could be $5,000 more"
According to that, if a house with a 1000 sq ft foundation were to be raised the cost should be about $60,000 (I'm assuming cinder blocks, not pilings here). One of my neighbors has been quoted over $100K to raise her house.
I am astounded that so many people can afford this amount of money. We are not raising although we're under the BFE of 9 which BH requires us to use. That's just a heck of a lot of money to have to put out for the process & I don't know how so many people are affording it.
I wondered what anyone else had heard in speaking with homeowners.
Thanks. View Answers
